Biography

Bill Byrne has been designing speech-based applications for the past ten years. He's been at Google since March 2005 and is currently focusing on the design of mobile applications with speech such as the recently released voice search feature on Google Mobile Application for iPhone. Byrne also leads UI design for 800-GOOG-411, a phone-based automated business search application. Byrne is consulting professor at Stanford where he's designed and taught courses on voice user interface design. Before Google, Byrne was director of speech solutions at SAP Labs, Palo Alto (2001-2005), director of speech and language at General Magic in Sunnyvale (1999-2001) and lecturer at Santa Clara University (1997-2000).
