Biography

Alonzo Mourning is a graduate of Georgetown University where he played basketball. He was selected second overall in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, behind Shaquille O'Neal. Mourning is a seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He played for the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, and in the 2000 Olympics. Prior the start of the 2000-01 season with the Heat, Mourning was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a disease of the kidneys.
