Biography

Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky is a writer, human rights activist, and a former Soviet dissident. He spent a total of twelve years in Soviet prisons, labor camps and in psikhushkas, forced-treatment psychiatric hospitals used by the regime as special prisons. Recently Bukovsky was a dismissed presidential candidate for the Russian Federation election of 2008.
