Demetrios G. Papademetriou is co-founder and President of the Migration Policy Institute, a Washington-based think tank dedicated exclusively to the study of international migration. He is also the co-convener, with Professor Werner Weidenfel, PhD, of the Bertelsmann Foundation, of the Transatlantic Task Force on Immigrant Integration. The Task Force is composed of senior public figures, business leaders, and public intellectuals from Europe, the US and Canada. Dr. Papademetriou also convenes the Athens Migration Policy Initiative (AMPI), a group of mostly European senior immigration experts that advises EU members states on immigration and asylum issues, and is the Co-Founder and International Chair Emeritus of Metropolis: An International Forum for Research and Policy on Migration and Cities. Metropolis seeks to stimulate interdisciplinary and cross-national policy research and thinking among teams of researchers, senior policy makers and leaders of the nongovernmental sector in nearly fifty states. The Metropolis network uses that knowledge to motivate governments at all levels to design and implement better policies.
