FORA.tv to Carry Intelligence Squared U.S. Spring 2012 Debate Series Featuring Propositions on Topics from Palestine Statehood to Banning College Football to Political Discourse in the Online Age

FORA.tv, the leading online destination for video programs from the world’s best conferences and events, today announced that it will partner with New York's premier live debate series, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) to broadcast its Spring 2012 series of five debates live online – as they happen -- and on-demand afterwards. All debates will be available on the FORA.tv website at intelligencesquaredus.fora.tv.

The first debate of the Spring 2012 season will take place on January 10 at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City with a divisive and timely proposition: The U.N. should Admit Palestine as a full member state. After 20 years of failed talks with Israel, can the recent plea by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the U.N. really serve as an effective way to create a two state solution? Or is Palestine setting the peace process back by bypassing negotiations?

In support of the motion are Mustafa Barghouthi, Former Palestinian National Authority Presidential Candidate, and Daniel Levy, Former Israeli Government Negotiator & J Street Co-Founder. Against the motion are Aaron David Miller, Former U.S. Mideast Negotiator, and advisor to Republican and Democratic Secretaries of State, and Dore Gold, former Israel Ambassador to the United Nations.

Additional motions to be considered in the Spring 2012 debates season are:

Obesity is the government’s business (February 7)     China does capitalism better than America (March 13)     When it comes to politics, the Internet is closing our minds (April 17)     Ban college football (May 8)

Confirmed panelists include best-selling author and New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell; New York Times bestselling author Dr. Pamela Peeke; MoveOn.org’s Eli Pariser; Fox News’ John Stossel; and Slate Editor-in-Chief Jacob Weisberg. U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin has been invited to participate and additional panelists will be announced soon.

“We are extremely pleased to partner with Intelligence Squared U.S. as the online partner for these important and provocative debates,” said Blaise Zerega, CEO and president of FORA.tv. “Intelligence Squared US debates address some of the critical issues of our time and offer tremendous appeal to our smart, engaged audience.”

“FORA.tv helps us extend our programming to a rapidly growing online audience,” added Dana Wolfe, executive producer of the Intelligence Squared US debates. “Our goal in producing these debates is to stimulate conversation and to foster civil dialogue among people on all sides of an issue. Working with FORA.tv enables us to amplify the impact of our events.”

Founded in New York City in 2006 by businessman and philanthropist Robert Rosenkranz, IQ2US has grown into an internationally syndicated series heard and watched by millions through radio broadcast, TV syndication, and now, live online via FORA.tv. The series has attracted some of the world's top thinkers as debate participants, including Christopher Hitchens, Arianna Huffington, Paul Krugman, Karl Rove and Fareed Zakaria, to name just a few.

As a general election year approaches, Intelligence Squared U.S. is committed to providing an alternative to the toxically emotional and reflexively ideological elements of the 24-hour news cycle. The series strives to heighten public discourse with entertaining, provocative, original and honest Oxford-style debates.

John Donvan, correspondent for ABC News Nightline, is moderator of Intelligence Squared U.S. debates. Live debates in New York City take place at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City.
