Dr. Regina Dugan, senior vice president at Motorola Mobility, leads the Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group, a skunkworks-inspired team chartered to deliver breakthrough innovations. Dr. Dugan was most recently the Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the principal agency within the Department of Defense for research, development and demonstration of high-risk, high-payoff capabilities. Appointed Director in July of 2009, she was the first woman to lead the Agency. Prior to DARPA, Dr. Dugan co-founded a niche investment firm and was founder and senior executive in several commercial companies with diverse products. A technogeek who has been widely recognized for her leadership in innovation and technology development, Regina has spoken at events ranging from All Things Digital: D9 and D11, FORTUNE Most Powerful Women Summit, and the Clinton Global Initiative: America, to TED where her 2012 talk was one of the top 10 trending Twitter topics worldwide. She was named "Number 1 Nerd to Watch in 2013" by NPR. Dr. Dugan obtained her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech and her master's and bachelor's degrees from Virginia Tech. She is the sole inventor or co-inventor on several patents.
