Scott Malkin, Chairman, Value Retail PLC, talks about the art of shopping tourism, and its impact on branding.
Scott Malkin is the founder and Chairman of Value Retail PLC, founder and Co-Chairman of Value Retail China, and founder and Chairman of S.D. Malkin Properties, where he led the development of the award winning, luxury retail complex 2 Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
His innovative work in the high-end outlet village category has led to nine projects serving the capital cities of Western Europe that produce among the highest sales densities of any shopping center in the world, with an unusually strong representation of long-haul and international tourists and a unique international travel trade positioning through the Chic Outlet Shopping platform.
Value Retail China is pursuing this same path for the tier-one cities in China. Suzhou Village outside of Shanghai is scheduled to open in early 2014. Value Retail’s proprietary operating approach, which reflects retailers working for retailers, will be unique in China and will be consistent with Value Retail's highly focused operating practices in Western Europe.
