Jean Grow, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and Director of the University Fine Arts Minor, in the Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Jean’s research explores the under-representation of women in advertising creative departments. In fall 2010 she worked in Spain and Italy exploring creative women’s experiences. She has numerous scholarly publications, including a forthcoming article in the International Journal of Advertising on the under-representation of women in creative in the United States and Spain. She co-authored Advertising Creative: Strategy, Copy and Design (Sage, 2010) and has a third edition underway. Jean also speaks to both professional and academic audiences, most recently presenting on self-branding to inter-cultural practitioners in Slovenia.
Prior to joining the academy Jean worked as an artists’ representative. Her clients included:Coca Cola and Kellogg’s as well as DDB, Draft FCB, and Leo Burnett, to name a few. She continues to consult, most recently working with Nike on a retrospective of women’s advertising, and the National Hemophilia Foundation to help launch a new women’s brand.
