Bio

Gabriel Byrne

Gabriel James Byrne is an Irish actor, film director, film producer, writer, cultural ambassador and audiobook narrator. His acting career began in the Focus Theatre before he joined Londo's Royal Court Theatre in 1979. Byrne's screen debut came in the Irish soap opera The Riordans and the spin-off show Bracken. He has now starred in over 35 feature films, such as The Usual Suspects, Miller's Crossing and Stigmata, in addition to writing two. Byrne's producing credits include the Academy Award-nominated In the Name of the Father. More recently, he has received much critical acclaim for his role as Dr. Paul Weston in the HBO drama In Treatment.

Gerard Mannix Flynn

Born in Dublin in 1957, Gerard Mannix Flynn is a playwright, performer and author whose work has dealt with such issues as institutional abuse, imprisonment and injustice. In 1977 The Liberty Suite, co-written with Peter Sheridan, was premiered at the Dublin Theatre Festival with Gerard Mannix Flynn as the protagonist in the play, set in a juvenile prison. In 1983 his novel Nothing To Say was published by Ward River Press and was translated into German. It tells the story of a boy sent "to be corrected" by the Christian Brothers. On the strength of this book, the Association of British & Irish Publishers selected Gerard Mannix Flynn as one of thirteen great Irish authors.

Pam Spees

Pam Spees is a senior staff attorney in the international human rights program at the Center for Constitutional Rights. She has a background in international criminal and human rights law with a gender focus, as well as criminal trial practice. Prior to joining CCR, she practiced criminal law in Louisiana, where she primarily represented indigent persons in state and federal courts. In addition, she has worked as a consultant in international law with a focus on women's human rights and previously served as Program Director of the Women's Caucus for Gender Justice, an international advocacy network dedicated to ensuring accountability for crimes of sexual and gender violence included in the treaty establishing the International Criminal Court. She now serves as an advisor to the Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice (formerly the Women's Caucus), which is now based in The Hague, to monitor the Court and continue the advocacy for accountability gender-based violence.

Mary Vallier-Kaplan

In her current position as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Endowment for Health, Mary Kaplan is responsible for the overall design and implementation of its program which includes grantmaking and communication. In addition, Mary oversees the day-to-day operations of the Endowment and manages strategic development and performance assessment functions of the Endowment. She also provides foundation leadership to build the capacity of NHâ€™s nonprofit community as well as the NH public health system. Mary has more than 25 years of professional expertise in public and community health issues in New Hampshire. She has served as a board member of many community and statewide organizations and as a consultant to several nonprofit health organizations. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, board development, community collaboration, population-based health statistics, community health centers, hospice and, most recently, philanthropy. Mary is an honors graduate of the University of Michigan, School of Public Health.
