Charles Porch on Building Cause from a Social Perspective.
Charles Best leads DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization which provides a simple way to address educational inequity. At DonorsChoose.org, public school teachers create classroom project requests and donors can pick the projects they want to support. Charles launched the organization twelve years ago out of a Bronx public high school where he taught history. DonorsChoose.org is one of Oprah Winfrey's "ultimate favorite things" and was named by Fast Company as one of the "50 Most Innovative Companies in the World," the first time a charity has received this recognition. For three years, Fortune Magazine has named Charles to its "40 under 40 hottest rising stars in business."
Charles Porch manages relationships with socialgood organizations and public figures on Facebook's Consumer Marketing team. In this role, Charles works to help make non-profit organizations and social movements create a successfulpresence on Facebook as well as highlight new and innovative uses of the platform in these verticals.
He led the company's Facebook Live initiatives at the 2011 World Economic Forum, the United Nations Foundation's online forum with Ban Ki-moon and Linkin Park and this year's South by Southwest conference. Most recently, Charles worked to launch Facebook's new resource center for non-profits.
Prior to joining Facebook, Charles worked on the Strategic Relationships team at Ning and began his career at Warner Bros Records, where he helped musicians navigate the world of technology. Charles holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Development from McGill University and lives in San Francisco.
Facebook's Charles Porch cites Movember as an example of how non-profits can utilize Facebook for social good. Movember encourages men to raise awareness and money for men's health causes by growing a mustache during the month of November and sharing photos of it on social networks.
