Not to be picky but an executive summary is analyzed by experts then dumbed down for the executive. What the conscious mind gets is more like the best guess from the lower vantage point ... an intuitive prediction. If you have done whatever before you feel confident, if something is bugging you might be missing something and need to think about what is might be,

Perfectly put Andrew. the Soul or Consciousness is something more.
Gottfried Leibnitz said :-
Quote:
It must be confessed, however, that perception, and that which depends upon it, are inexplicable by mechanical causes, that is to say, by figures and motions. Supposing that there were a machine whose structure produced thought, sensation, and perception, we could conceive of it as increased in size with the same proportions until one was able to enter into its interior, as he would into a mill. Now, on going into it he would find only pieces working upon one another, but never would he find anything to explain perception. It is accordingly in the simple substance, and not in the compound nor in a machine that the perception is to be sought. Furthermore, there is nothing besides perceptions and their changes to be found in the simple substance. And it is in these alone that all the internal activities of the simple substance can consist.

Ah, their debate boils down to the same fact: We are incapable, as human beings, of understanding how a given neurological process can translate to a conscious event. Consciousness cannot be understood via the language of a counting machine. We can fully simulate the brain and yet be left none the wiser to this fact. This is what the young guy in the debate was trying to say - and he's right.

And it's a principle that you have to visualise, and if you can't do that then you will never understand his (or my) point.

-------------------------------------

But absolutely, it makes great sense to simulate the brain for and as a potent research tool.

But, if the brain really is just a terminal that a "spirit" of some kind sees through, and holds together (performing an integrative function), then the simulation may never work like a real brain and, functionally, be rendered a teaming mass of nonsense computational chaos. But that of course is speculation (so far!).

Very true. The conscious mind is merely handed the "executive summary" of lower level processes. It communicates through feelings and 'effects'. This is why it's important to listen to feelings - they know what they "mean"!

It is because you can not see thought and meaning connected to an experience, that then leads to a feeling that comes from a complex paradigm or belief
and it's influence.. The best you will get it a wave pattern but not see the energy that creates it. We do have mirror molecules, that are empathic and in that we can understand and feel another's experience. One will only see pathways, and connections.. What will be useful is where blocks of signals occur and areas that are not energizing properly. What will happen when one gets new visions in
meeting another and the correlating changes to chemistries from others.
Values..do you will be able to see values??
