In the past four years, hundreds of hackerspaces have come to exist in countries throughout the planet, with more popping up all the time. Yet they are absent in parts of the world that need them the most. Mitch Altman and Bilal Ghalib, co-founders of two thriving hackerspaces (Noisebridge in San Francisco, and All Hands Active in Ann Arbor, Michigan), will share their stories of the impact hackerspaces have made on their communities and individual lives, and will share their plan to help people in Africa start hackerspaces, starting in Cairo, Egypt, at Maker Faire Africa.

2011 World Maker Faire NY is an amazing showcase of creativity and cool technology that celebrates the DIY mind-set. It’s stimulating, inspiring and fun for all ages. You just have to be there to experience it for yourself.
Every year there are first-time makers as well as favorites returning with something new. See the latest technology using Arduino, check out projects in the Health 2.0 space and see what the Young Makers are working on! Practical. Whimsical. Experimental. Original. World Maker Faire is a weekend filled with an incredible variety of exhibits, talks demonstrations and performances, most of them hands- on and all of them engaging, bridging arts and crafts and science and engineering. World Maker Faire is a reflection of our community at its very best.
