Bio

Matthew Bishop

Matthew Bishop is the U.S. business editor and New York bureau chief of The Economist. His new book, The Road from Ruin: How to Renew Capitalism and Put America Back on Top, with Michael Green, was published by Crown in February 2010. Philanthrocapitalism, his previous book (also with Mr. Green) was on the global revolution under way in philanthropy. Mr. Bishop is also the author of Essential Economics, The Economist's official layperson's guide to economics. Mr. Bishop is the author of several of The Economist's special report supplements, most recently "A Bigger World," which examines the opportunities and challenges accompanying the rise of emerging economies and firms. Before joining The Economist, Mr. Bishop was on the faculty of London Business School.

Cherie Blair

Cherie Blair is a leading human rights lawyer and a passionate campaigner for women's equality around the world. The wife of the former British prime minister, she is closely involved with over 20 charitable organizations and launched the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women in 2008 to provide business-development support for female entrepreneurs in developing countries.

Blair became a queen's counsel in 1995, is an accredited mediator, and sits as a part-time judge. In 2007 she was awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill medal in recognition of her extraordinary humanitarian contributions. She is honorary vice president of Barnardo's, the UK's leading children's charity and advocacy group, ambassador for the disability charity Scope, president of the Loomba Foundation, a trustee of the Africa Justice Foundation, and patron of several other charities, including Breast Cancer Care and SolarAid.
