Such lack of knowledge contributes hugely to the fog and confusion in the public discourse and creates a huge ill-informed population very vulnerable to propaganda.Lowest Price Parking at Edinburgh Airport

Don't think he meant 300 could not be made again because of the numbers but , going along with the temper of the conversation, because of the nature of the topic of cultural myopia.

Bridging the Middle East...etc
Love discussions like this with a mix of generations and cultures, as Nasha said: take life a little more lightly...put some glitter on it! Seeking more!

Reza at the 102:30 makes an important point, that we must become culturally literate as well as religiously literate.

In the West, so many people with strong opinions know almost nothing about both subjects. Such lack of knowledge contributes hugely to the fog and confusion in the public discourse and creates a huge ill-informed population very vulnerable to propaganda.

thanks. I couldn't have said it better myself. I hope people start ignoring Reza . . . . because he's such an idiot! He's dangerous though . . because for people who are superficial & uniformed, he may be convincing! But most intelligent people can see through his BS in a few minutes.

Reza Aslan is a bigot and an idiot. Always eager to fudge the issues and blame everything else except the real problems and issues. Complete waste of time. Sam harris is one of the best and Sam has put Reza in his rightful place in numerous debates whilst all Reza could do is fudge the issues and re-direct the topic repeatedly.

Reza Aslan: "You could not make '300' again."

Really? I'm not so sure. Via IMDB:

300 (2006):
Estimated Budget: $65m
Est. Revenues: $210.5m
Net Box Office: $145.5 (profit)

Prince of Persia (2010):
Est. Budget: $200m
Est. Revenues: $91m
Net Box Office: -$109m (loss)

Just going by the numbers here, if, as Aslan states, "money talks in this country," it would be far more likely to ask for a sequel to "300" than for another "Prince of Persia." (Whether or not that can, or should, be read as an indicator of the status of Iranians in pop culture is another issue. At the risk of sounding like a snot, I'd venture a guess that many Americans who bothered to watch either of these movies may not be aware that "Persia" is the historical name for what we now know as "Iran," much less make a connection between these two very fantasy-based worlds to the modern country.)
