On November 8, 2009, hundreds of Jewish leaders met in San Francisco for a conference featuring innovators from the energy industry, investment, sustainability, and policy.
They shared ideas and experiences to help advance the generational movement for clean and secure energy.
Bio
Matan Friedman
Matan Friedman is a Senior Associate in the California office. He joined Bessemer Venture Partners in 2008 to focus on the Cleantech sector.
Most recently, Matan was Manager of Strategy and Business Development for Ze-Gen Inc., an early-stage Boston-based developer of advanced waste-to-energy technology. While in Boston, Matan also engaged in consulting projects for early stage startups in the recycling and water purification sectors. Previously, he was a Business Analyst with McKinsey and Co.'s Tel Aviv office, where he consulted on productivity improvement, business development, strategy and corporate finance.
Earlier in his career, Matan held a series of roles in the Intelligence branch of the Israeli Defense Force, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. It was during this time, as he worked on R&D related projects that his interest in energy and efficiency began.
Matan holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Tel Aviv University.
Arthur Haubenstock
Arthur Haubenstock is Chief Counsel and Director of Regulatory Affairs at BrightSource, a pioneering large-scale solar energy company.
Sagi Rubin
Sagi Rubin joined Virgin Green Fund from Gemini Israel Funds, an Israeli based venture capital firm.
At Gemini Sagi was focused on the renewable energy sector, and helped initiate and develop the fund's activities and investments in the sector. Prior to that Sagi was involved with several of the fund's investments in the Enterprise Software and Consumer Internet space.
Prior to Gemini, Sagi worked at American Express in London, where he served as the Business Development Manager for Multinational Accounts in the Communications & Technology Sector. Prior to AmEx, Sagi worked as a pre-sales manager at Amdocs, a multinational telecom software provider, where he led sales activities with tier-one European telecom operators.
Sagi has an MBA from INSEAD in France and a BA in Computer Science & Management.
Jonathan Shapira
Jonathan Shapira is an associate in the firm's Business Law Department.
He joined Goodwin Procter in 2008. Shapira is also founder of the Boston-Israel Cleantech Alliance.
Dr. Eitan Yudilevich
Dr. Eitan Yudilevich joins the BIRD Foundation with vast international experience after a varied career in Israel and the U.S., including management of Rafael's operations in the U.S. for four years. In his last position at Rafael, Dr. Yudilevich served as Vice President of Marketing
and Business Development.
Previously, he was in charge of Rafael's missiles division, the company's largest division which also develops various technologies which have civilian applications, such as Given Imaging's unique capsule. Dr. Yudilevich was also Chairman of the Board of Opgal, an electro-optics company, and served as Director of RDC, a business development company jointly owned by Elron and Rafael.
Dr. Yudilevich completed his doctoral studies in computers and systems engineering in the field of medical imaging at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He earned his Master's Degree in mathematics at the Polytechnic Institute, and his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in electrical engineering at Haifa's Technion.
