Jeffrey R. Immelt, the CEO of General Electric since 2001, has been named one of the World's Best CEOs by Barron's three times. He is also a member of President Obama's Economic Recovery Board.

Norman Pearlstine

Norman Pearlstine was editor-in-chief of Time, Inc., the world's largest magazine publisher, from 1995 until the end of 2005. Mr. Pearlstine oversaw the editorial content of TIME, Life, Fortune, Sports Illustrated, People, In Style, Money, and Entertainment Weekly to name a few. In 2004, the American Society of Magazine Editors gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award and inducted him into the Magazine Editors' Hall of Fame.

Prior to joining Time Inc., Mr. Pearlstine worked with Dow Jones & Company, except for a two-year period when he was an executive editor at Forbes magazine. He was also managing and then executive editor of The Wall Street Journal. He is currently a senior advisor to Time, Inc., He published the book, Off the Record: The Press, the Government, and the War over Anonymous Sources in 2008.

General Electric Co. (GE): Major U.S. corporation and one of the largest companies in the world. Its products include electrical and electronic equipment, plastics, aircraft engines, medical imaging equipment, and financial services. The company was incorporated in 1892, acquiring all the assets of the Edison General Electric Co. (founded as Edison Electric Light Co. by Thomas Alva Edison in 1878) and two other electrical companies. The company established a research laboratory in 1900, and many of its later products, including various home appliances, were developed by in-house scientists. In 1986 GE purchased the RCA Corp., including its television network, NBC. GE's headquarters are in Fairfield, Conn.; General Electric Co. (GE) on britannica.com
