Mark Steyn: The End of the World as We Know

People choose their own morality. That's why there are good Muslims, good Christians, good Jews, good what have you. If the sacred texts advocate something against people's personal morality, it is ignored. Conversely, both Christians and Muslims have used their sacred texts to justify abominations. Now it is a sect of Islam called Wahhabism (Islamo-fascism) which is the biggest threat to world peace. It sucks to be a decent Muslim these days, but dismissing critics of this sect as racist or imperialist is simply a way to stop thinking. The truth is that there is a large network of brainwashed extremists out there using the Koran as a weapon to kill people. Pretending NO Muslims are threatening is as stupid as saying that ALL Muslims are threatening.

KAM you are ignorant and brainwashed by the imams and Islamic apologists. In “your peaceful” Islamic caliphate infidels used to pay 10-15% higher taxes to the Padishah just because the were not Muslims; women could not own real estate. In front of a Qadi, the infidel’s word worth nothing compared to the one of a Muslim. In some provinces infidels did not have rights to inherit under the Estate law; by the same law, a converted into Islam man-sibling had special advantages. In other provinces infidels were forbidden to speak their native language; unlike Muslims, infidels were not allowed to carry personal weapon (dagger or gun) and ride a hors; convicted infidels were sentenced into heavy labour for many years. The authorities by the law had right to take away from their young boys, 8-10 years of age, convert forcefully them into Islam, and put them in training camps to prepare them for the Padishah’s army as foot soldiers; only authentic Muslim man could serve in the cavalry. KAM, is this the order that you want to restore? Islam is one of the middle ages tyrannical ideologies. In the last 300 years, Christian Church was displaced from political power, by the new economical system called capitalism. In the society, Christian ideology was replaced by new ideology, Secular Humanism. Christian Church managed to survive (temporarily) by adapting significant changes. The capitalism is spreading into the countries with Muslim population slowly but surely. Islamic theocratic class will be replaced from the power and that is why every Mufti, Qadi, Imam, etc., is panicking and spreads hatred towards “western civilisation.” The question is not whether Europe will survive the Muslims invasion, but could Islam adopted necessary changes to survive? By now, Islamic theocrats maintain wrong policies by confronting the West. By the way, Mark Steyn is wrong in his prognostications; he barely understands the history and the society as dynamic phenomena. How ever there are lot things he feels correctly.

I think he is paradoxical in his idea. If the west is democratic and free, and those who live in the west accepted Islam then based on democracy and freedom the west should accept that.

Why do some Americans and Britons act like they are a "barrier" against Islam, when it's exactly USA and Britain that have been supporting extreme Islam like noone else? From the support of the Talibans in the 1980's to the current support of Saudi Arabia and the toppling of a secular regime in Iraq and reinstitution of Sharia law. Not to mention US/British actions in other regions of the world (Chechnya, Balkans, etc) and the large number of extreme Muslims expats living in Britain spreading their hartred to their home countries. Also, most eastern orthodox Christians in particular have suffered a lot because of US/British actions that have favored radical Islam...

Hello, Being a realist is not very popular. Islam is submission which also means NO Questioning, like the Roman Catholics, Inquisition, "the devil is in the details" Blind Faith No Questions. The Information age-technology doubles itself in5-7 years therefore questions is a way of life! 2.3 billion Catholics plus 1.7 billion Muslims, where blind faith, going to paradise or the rapture both negate the present the Now! Abuse the young and jam the past into the future or paradise. White population is into Population control, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Ted Turner, R. Murdoch etc. all are population control freaks. Muslims want to run over everyone, like the Chinese, and dominate through numbers, also keeps their women at home and pregnant! more suicide bombers! The Muslim says to the Christian, "Yes it may take 10 years or 110 years, one day One of yours will marry One of Mine and You too will be in the house of Allah! This religious agenda of Global domination and the lure of paradise or rapture, these TWO extremes have NUKES!OUCH!

I loved someone's point above: "for they could only produce disappointing hcracters like you".. that's it.. the word "disappointing" is so very proper.. for it might cause me to laugh hard on how cocksure comments by some people here are.. claiming that they “know Islam better than you Muslims” while their comments and arguments are so primitive for that they never come anywhere within the neighborhood of ultimate truths... but honestly this fact only causes a sigh of sorrow.. If only you really have studied more about Islam (given if you have intellectual abilities at all) you could sense that Islam is the only religion of freedom.. as this is the only religion that teaches humans how to coordinate the demands of their spirits and the demands of their bodies in such a way that life might have become full and righteous.. and in Islam it is reflected in EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF HUMAN LIFE.. this is why I’d rather call it not the religion but the way of life… But huh... what can we do?! –(... “mind-ossification” is the most dangerous disease.. I guess we can't do anything but only leave them alone.. to struggle a long way with their “original sin” as according to the Christianity they are created sinful.. or like in Hinduism let them go through a long chain of incarnations to ward the ultimate goal of perfection as according Hinduism they were created originally low and impure.. maybe one day they would be incarnated like a cockroach for example... what a nonsense.. and they are so proud of it? Allah says that we were created in a best shape possible: “Verily, We created man in a perfect state and thereupon We reduce him to the lowest of low, with the exception of those who have faith in God and do good works”. Human being is created in the perfect shape and has given all the abilities and opportunities to use his life to make this world a better place… one single chance with his life. And hereafter he would be judged according to whatever his intentions and actions were.. one single chance for the World enbeterment.. as like someone absolutely righteously have pointed above look at our wold.. how many problems we all are facing... solving those problems is the best act of worship to our Creator.. and if we can be a part of it.. then like someone said "we will not just deserve Jannah, but Jannah will come to us in sha Allah"

Didn't Mohammed marry and take the virginity of a young child? This may have been common practice among Muslims back then, but I would hardly call that perfect behavior. There are grown Muslim men now, who see Mohammed as the perfect man and believe that if he did it, then it is behavior that is permitted. They too, have no moral qualms with marriage and sexual relations with girls (as opposed to women). Let's assume everything you say is true - Islam has been the spark of civilization around teh globe and, if followed by all, would lead to a more just, more peaceful world. Let's now look at those places where Islam IS the dominant faith and Sharia is in effect - say Saudi Arabia. How are women treated in Saudi Arabia? How are the people treated in Saudi Arabia? Listen to the Muslim scholars from Saudi Arabia and the University of Cairo debate the "religiously acceptable" means of removing the clitoris of females. Ascertain the Truth, I admire your fervent belief as long as you are peaceful. Unlike most who participate on these fora, I believe religious faith is wonderful. Do you acknowledge any of the grave moral, political and even intellectual wrongs committed in the name of Islam, committed with Q'ran justifying the behaviors? I must admit that your description of Islam and its glorious past sounded somewhat like the speech of an "African American Studies" student claiming that African chiefs flew around in helicopters thousands of years ago and created everything until those damned white Christians came and ruined everything, but despite their clear superiority, have not managed to create even a modestly modern, peaceful life for their people in centuries.
