Contact between peoples with different cultures, usually leading to change in one or both systems. Forms of culture contact traditionally include acculturation, assimilation, and amalgamation. Acculturation is the process of change in material culture, traditional practices, and beliefs that occurs when one group interferes in the cultural system of another, directly or indirectly challenging the latter to adapt to the ways of the former. Such change has characterized most political conquests and expansions over the centuries. Assimilation is the process whereby individuals or groups of differing ethnicity are absorbed into the dominant culture of a societythough not always completely. In the U.S. millions of European immigrants became assimilated within two or three generations; factors included the upheaval of overseas relocation, the influences of the public school system, and other forces in American life. Amalgamation (or hybridization) occurs when a society becomes ethnically mixed in a way that represents a synthesis rather than the elimination or absorption of one group by another. In Mexico, for example, Spanish and Indian cultures became increasingly amalgamated over centuries of contact.

As for the Indian community's state of affairs in the country,I concur with the fact that most Indians could do better, but only if they spend less time and money on toddies.Once sobered, they can see clearly who the Indian leader truly is,a gangster. But like the minds of the little one,it is always easy to blame others for one's shortcomings. You mean to say that the rich don't spend money on intoxicants like alcohol and drugs? What I am saying is the truth - hence your racist outburst. Had it not been for the wisdom of Muslim leaders in governing Malaysia,Ganesha could still be tapping rubber and stoned drunk on toddies. Muslims pray five times a day.Is it not good to be close to one's God,on any account.Physically and psychologically, prayers bring positive elements. You have to spend more time to understand Islam.Making derogatory comments on anything, without full understanding of the subject ,only reflects on your intellectual capacity. Splashing cow's urinate around the compound of a house, an Indian wishes to move in as a form of prayer is detestable and seem an absurd act by non Hindus. That is what religion is all about, having faith in what the religion teaches you.For a relatively small population, there are more Indian temples in Malaysia then there are mosques! Too bad the temples could only produce disappointing characters like you.Poodah. |
