On the occasion of the paperback release of Elaine Showalter's tenth book, A Jury of Her Peers: Celebrating American Women Writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx, the three very different writers in the Showalter family talk about how they became writers and how being part of this family influenced their work.

Daughter Vinca Showalter LaFleur is a former speechwriter for President Clinton, a partner in the Washington firm West Wing Writers, and an international speechwriter and ghostwriter.

Elaine Showalter

Elaine Showalter is professor emeritus of English at Princeton University, an author of ten books, and a journalist who has written for People, Vogue, The Guardian, and The Washington Post.

Michael Showalter

Michael Showalter is a comedian, actor, screenwriter, and comedy writer. He teaches at New York University's Film School and stars in the Comedy Central series, Michael & Michael Have Issues. He recently published, Mr. Funny Pants.

Vinca Showalter LaFleur

Vinca Showalter LaFleur is a partner in the speech writing firm, West Wing Writers. She is a former speechwriter for President Clinton and also wrote for Secretary of State Warren Christopher. Vinca has written and edited speeches, articles, books, and reports for corporate executives, former senior government officials, royalty, prominent think tanks, and public figures. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, she also has published under her own name on issues from poverty to communications, and served as a visiting fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
