Janet Holmgren
On the frontlines of higher education for over 35 years, Janet L. Holmgren was appointed President of Mills College (Oakland, CA) in 1991. She came to Mills as one of the highest-ranking women administrators at Princeton University where she was vice provost from 1988 to 1991.
Instrumental in shaping the national agenda for women and higher education through her leadership roles with Mills and prominent boards, President Holmgren is currently on the Boards of Princeton University, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and the Executive Committee of Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities.
Representative Barbara Lee
Barbara Jean Lee has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1998, representing California's 9th congressional district. She is the first woman to represent that district. Lee is the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and was the Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Lee is notable as the only person in either chamber of Congress who voted against the authorization of use of force following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Lee has been a vocal critic of the war in Iraq and supports legislation creating a Department of Peace.
