Summary: On June 28, 1969, police raided a gay bar in New York City known as the Stonewall Inn. After years of police harassment, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people decided to fight back. Often cited as the defining moment of the modern LGBT rights movement, that fateful night became known as the Stonewall riots. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, GLOE and Sixth & I present an insider�s look at several generations of activism from the LGBT Jewish community.

From Harvey Milk to Adrienne Rich, some of the most pioneering activists have shared a common Jewish background. In this moderated discussion, we'll delve into the intersections between Jewish cultural heritage and activist work for and by the LGBT community.

Dr. Dana Beyer

Dr. Dana Beyer, the first transgender candidate for State Delegate in the Maryland House of Delegates, is the current Vice President of Equality Maryland.

Frank Kameny

Frank Kameny, a leading figure in the gay rights movement, petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court with the first civil rights claim based on sexual orientation. He also coined the term "Gay is Good."

Anne Kronenberg

Anne Kronenberg, Harvey Milk's 1977 campaign manager, is the current Director of Policy and Planning at the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Robert Raben

Robert Raben, former Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General under the Clinton Administration, served as Counsel to Congressman Barney Frank, and is the founder and current President of The Raben Group, LLC.

Winnie Stachelberg

Winnie Stachelberg is the Senior Vice President for External Affairs at the Center for American Progress. Prior to that role, she served as Vice President of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation's largest gay civil rights organization.
