Jane Hightower will discuss the risk of consuming too much mercury when eating top predator ocean fish such as tuna, swordfish and sharks.
She is a San Francisco doctor who discovered in 2000 that many of her patients had the classic symptoms of mercury poisoning, including nausea, trouble concentrating and tiredness, and she traced these symptoms to eating fish several times a week. Public health warnings are still inadequate, she says- The Commonwealth Club of California

Dr. Jane M. Hightower
Jane M. Hightower, M.D., is the author of Mercury: Money, Politics and Poison. She is a board-certified internal medicine physician in San Francisco, California.
She published a landmark study that brought the issue of mercury in seafood to national attention. She continues to publish scientific papers and give lectures on the subject.
Harmful effects of mercury compounds. Manufacture of paints, various household items, and pesticides uses mercury; the finished product and the waste products released into air and water may contain mercury. The aquatic food chain can concentrate organic mercury compounds in fish and seafood, which, if eaten by humans, can affect the central nervous system, impairing muscle, vision, and cerebral function, leading to paralysis and sometimes death (seeMinamata disease). Acute mercury poisoning causes severe digestive-tract inflammation. Mercury accumulates in the kidneys, causing uremia and death. Chronic poisoning, from occupational inhalation or skin absorption, causes metallic taste, oral inflammation, blue gum line, extremity pain and tremor, weight loss, and mental changes (depression and withdrawal). Drugs containing mercury can cause sensitivity reactions, sometimes fatal. In young children, acrodynia (pink disease) is probably caused by an organic mercury compound in house paints.
However, in 2005, large plumes began appearing in the skies over our town. These plumes came from large, slow-flying, low-flying jets that appeared for several hours and then went away.
These plumes are causing symptoms that are identical to mercury poisoning. This is a shocking development that people need to know about:
Mercury is a big problem and commonly causes or is a major factor in over 30 chronic health conditions www.flcv.com/dams.html
But fish is not the largest source of mercury in most people who have several amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings and amalgam under metal crowns have been documented by medical labs and the Gov't as being the largest source in most such people: www.flcv.com/damspr1.html
Most people with many of these chronic conditions related to mercury recover or significantly improve after amalgam replacement/ and or detoxification www.flcv.com/hgrecovp.html www.flcv.com/hgremove.html

As with most commentators and lectures, the camera guy is a candidate for the Homer-Simpson award. Who just takes a picture of the person talking when they're referencing things off screen? More important is the SLIDE not the persons mouth moving! Hit or miss with directors/ producers/ cameramen... could you pull back for a few seconds? The speaker was knowledgeable and articulate and a credit to the subject.
