The luncheon will showcase several local authors and their books including Jan Yanehiro and Jackie Speier's recent book, "This is Not the Life I Ordered," Dr. Patrick Hunt's best selling book, "Ten Discoveries That Rewrote History," Henry Neff's "Tapestry," Roseanne Murphy’s "Martyr of the Amazon," and Helga Hayes' "Don't Worry About a Thing, Dear," to name a few.
Our moderator and speaker will be another local author of "Off Mike," Michael Krasny, also the popular host of Forum and senior editor of KQED Radio- Orphan Compassion
Bio
Helga Hayse
Two years before she was widowed, Helga created "A Wife's Guide to Financial Intimacy"¯ to teach women about the need for financial participation in their marriage. Just as she was launching the seminar in the public arena, Hayse's husband died suddenly in an accident. The information she had researched to teach other women helped save her life.
Helga is the founder of The Institute for Vital Aging, a California non-profit organized to teach people in midlife about renewed opportunities for wellness and healthy aging.
She is a member of the American Society on Aging and was an invited speaker at the 2006 annual convention.
Patrick Hunt
Patrick Hunt is the author of Ten Discoveries That Rewrote History. He received his PhD from the University of London's Institute of Archaeology in 1991. Hunt now teaches Classics at Stanford University.
Michael Krasny
Michael Krasny, Ph.D., is host of KQED's award-winning Forum, a news and public affairs program that concentrates on the arts, culture, health, business and technology.
Before coming to KQED Public Radio in 1993, Dr. Krasny hosted a night-time talk program for KGO Radio and co-anchored the weekly KGO television show Nightfocus. He hosted Bay TV's Take Issue, a nightly news analysis show, programs for KQED Public Televison, KRON television and National Public Radio, and did news commentary for KTVU television.
Since 1970 he has been a professor of English at San Francisco State University and is a widely published scholar and critic as well as a former regular contributor to Mother Jones magazine and a fiction writer. He has also worked widely as a facilitator and host in the corporate sector and as moderator for a host of major non-profit events.
Dr. Krasny received his B.A. (Cum Laude) and M.A. degrees from Ohio University, where he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his Ph.D. degree from The University of Wisconsin.
Roseanne Murphy
Roseanne Murphy is a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur and author of Martyr of the Amazon. She has also authored Julie Billiart: Woman of Courage: The Story of the Foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
Henry Neff
Henry Neff is a San Francisco high school teacher and the author and illustrator of the Tapestry series of books.
Jan Yanehiro
Jan Yanehiro is a Japanese broadcast journalist.
She is the Director of Multimedia Communications at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
