Cynthia Banham

In March 2007, journalist Cynthia Banham was a passenger aboard Garuda flight 200 when it crashed into the airport at Yogjakarta, Indonesia. The disaster left 21 people dead, and Banham with burns to 60% of her body, a broken back and both legs requiring amputation. However, she has not allowed her new life in a wheelchair to inhibit her life or career. Recently engaged to her long-term partner, she continues to work for the Sydney Morning Herald as diplomacy correspondent.
