Summary: The quality of the security environment is much affected by the nature of the regional security architecture. If Asia is not quite yet a unified security community, it is certainly a vibrant security market-place.

Security here is regularly being bought, rented, leveraged, reinsured merged and acquired through a dizzying array of strategic partnerships, ad hoc co-operative relationships and formal defence alliances, some reflected, others less so, in existing institutional structures.

The Shangri-La Dialogue has a very special place within the present architecture in helping to inter-mediate these distinct and emerging defence relationships as it includes the national security establishments of all the key states - International Institute for Strategic Studies

Dr. John Chipman

Dr. John Chipman is the Director-General and Chief Executive at The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, England.

Dr. Jakob Kellenberger

Jakob Kellenberger is a former Swiss diplomat and the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He studied French and Spanish literature as well as linguistics in Zurich, Tours, and Granada and gained a doctorate from the University of Zurich. Later, he was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel.

General Aye Myint Kyu

Brigadier General Aye Myint Kyu is the of deputy minister of Ministry of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar.

Dr. Julio Pinto

Julio Tomas Pinto is that Secretary of State for Defense of Timor-Leste.

Najib Tun Razak

Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak is a Malaysian politician who has been the country's deputy prime pinister since January 7, 2004. Najib is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), and is currently the deputy president of the party.
