Bio

Caitlin Borgmann

Caitlin Borgmann, Assistant Professor, graduated from Yale College and earned a J.D. from New York University, where she was executive editor of the New York University Law Review. She clerked in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York and spent four years as a litigator at Davis Polk & Wardwell, after which she was the State Strategies Coordinator at the Reproductive Freedom Project of the ACLU for six years. In this capacity she was responsible for legislative and affiliate support, provision of legal advice, legislative strategy and communications support. She has spoken and written widely about reproductive rights and given testimony before several state legislatures on this issue. Professor Borgmann is the editor of the Reproductive Rights Prof Blog.

Marjorie Heins

Marjorie Heins founded the Free Expression Policy Project. She is the author of Not in Front of the Children: "Indecency," Censorship, and the Innocence of Youth, which won the American Library Association's Eli M. Oboler Award in 2002 for the best published work in the field of intellectual freedom. From 2004-07, she was a fellow in the Brennan Center for Justice Democracy Program. From 1991-98, she directed the American Civil Liberties Union's Arts Censorship Project, where she was co-counsel in a number of Supreme Court cases, including Reno v. ACLU (the challenge to the 1996 Communications Decency Act). Marjorie is also the author of Sex, Sin, and Blasphemy: A Guide to America's Censorship Wars (1993, 1998), "The Progress of Science and Useful Arts": Why Copyright Today Threatens Intellectual Freedom (2003), and numerous book chapters and articles about free expression, copyright, and media reform. She graduated from Harvard Law School in 1978.

Nancy Keenan

Nancy Keenan is the current president of the United States-based abortion rights network NARAL Pro-Choice America. Keenan has also served in the Montana legislature and was the Superintendent of Public Instruction as a Democrat for the state of Montana from 1988-2000.

Daniel Maguire

Daniel Maguire specializes in religious ethics focusing upon issues of social justice and medical and ecological ethics. He is the author of eleven books and the editor of three anthologies. He is also the author of some 200 articles in professional journals and magazines, including Theological Studies, Cross Currents, Atlantic, The New York Times, Crisis: Journal of the NAACP, and Ms. Magazine.

Great talk from all the speakers. Educating the masses is what is going to help the abortion controversy. There should not be any controversy at all. It is a woman's right to choose for herself.
