The Age of Access. Please welcome Baptiest Coopmans.Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a real honor to be here among all these pioneers in thismultimedia world. As a representative of a an increment, a local telecom provider, I would like to putand to make something straight from the beginning of my presentation. Among a lot of you and andin a lot of circles we have seen and known as a dominant player, if not a monopolist who were thrivesto defend this markets and steps on the toes of small competitors or parties. If that all apply in this newmultimedia world, I can tell you all that these days have long gone. In this new new world we are notat all a dominant player anymore and we realize more than ever that it's the new services which aredeveloped by companies like yourself, make the future for our consumers and that's in our partnershipwhere we delivering the connections and you delivering the services to our consumers that that willlead to growth in the market and that leads to partnerships and new ways of workingIn that sense, we are a facilitator. We try to facilitate this new multimedia world. We try to facilitatethis new world of services that by - mainly by connecting to help the consumer mainly by givingconsumer access through internets through television through whatever wireless options to connectto this endless worlds of opportunities. And this leads to a huge demand of bandwidth. If you look attoday's consumption in my house in my youngsters, you will see what the future will be. And thatbefore, I would like to say something formally my presentation and ask some of colleagues to puttogether a small video to show you how I look at the the behavior of my children. The video pleaseI did. So, one I believe that although sometimes it feels that things like IPTV, news services goslowly. If you look at the behavior of youngsters between 12 and 16 today, watch more their computerthan a television screen. If they are not aligned they are on the - they are sending mutual SMS's. Thisbehavior, there is a future and this is what we enable. And I am proud to work for company whichenables the fact that in a few years grandparents are going to watch the football matches of theirchildren in the local community on their local television and I am proud to work for a companywhich will enable the doctors all over the world will operate the people at the other side of the worldthrough a virtual concertsThis new ways of communication has endless has endless possibilities and that Netherlands is at thefourth forms. The Netherlands is at the forth form because we as KPN don't want to play a major rolebut also because our consumer in the Netherlands is quicker and earlier in adopting innovations. Wehave seen it in other markets but we have also seen it in this multimedia market and today we have 75percent of the Dutch households connected to broadband connection. In only one to two years time, wewill have more than 90 percent of the Dutch households connected to a to a broadband connectionSo our role is much more the enabling role than the role of trying to dominate or to facilitate theservices, we look like partnership with you guys to see if we can get this thing further and later in mypresentation I would like to show you how we use some of our test bits in order to accelerate this newworld in the Netherlands. If you talk about enabling people, we have seen an increased uptake in theinternet but also now in mobile internets. We are doubling the mobile internet usage every four monthsin the Netherlands now. Today this week, KPN is launching television on your mobile - so streaming11 channels. And then in January we will do a major investment in enabling digital broadcast onmobile telephones where you will have to collect your digital television, all broadcasted channels - themajor ten on your mobile and read at the moment in a friendly user of thisSo these are the investments you take from your main aim for footed enabled people in living in thismultimedia world and this goes with major investments and because we believe that the uptake and theneed for bend twist will even be much more. We have taken the decision to put fiber in the in theground in the Netherlands, up to 25,000 street cabinets. The street cabinets is this ugly gray metalthing you have at the corner of your street which makes you you have a telephone connection at yourhouse where now you have your broadband connection too and we will make sure that those these25,000 street cabinets will be connected to a fiber network that way being able to bring speeds of theinternet and broadband to much higher speeds in the Netherlands giving the people possibility to watchmulti IP TV in their homes.Pioneering we call it because it's not only pioneering in doing these things but it's also pioneeringbecause you think a quite financial investments and financial risks. We over side we see also Roleas a company in seeing how you can further stimulate this multimedia usage and we have taken theinitiative in a few examples to see if we can further stimulate concepts and the usage of consumers. Sowe have we have looked at this 27 24 hours, seven days a week economy and we have deliberatelychosen to invest in an online multi-channel media which is called DAG I will explain something aboutit, we have deliberately invested in community television concepts, we have deliberately invested inin what we call location based servicesI would like to say a few words about these things because we don't invest in that like an anincumbent in order to see this as the replacement of our future revenue streams but would deliberatelydo this to create a a creative environment in Netherlands where more and more people take initiativeslike this and that way stimulate multimedia usage, stimulate further usage of these concepts, stimulatethe economy and that way increase also the demand for our connection services. So let me take one of these examples which is a partnership we set up together with PCM. PCM is alocal Dutch publisher and the the partnership I am just watching the visuals on a don't see yet thevisuals of of this concept. So together with PCM we we saw that a lot of newspapers thrive to getinto the internet world. We saw that a lot of websites thrives to get into the mobile world. We saw thata lot of mobile operators try to go into competent world and we saw that it would be a good idea to testif one platform could make it in one goal.So last May we launched a free news paper which is called DAG at the same time we launched a newsportal, we launched a mobile portal, we launched SMS alert and we are at this moment in time workingat possibilities to extend this concept to net casting or to a lot of TV kind of concepts. That wayleveraging across all media types, a lot of people talk about triple play - quadruple play, a lot of peopletalk about multimedia concepts but only if you take risks like this, you can see if you are going toreally stimulate consumer behavior. We learn a lot about it. We also learn a lot about things that don'twork. We see that for instance consumer behavior during the day is completely different and whichsounds logical if people don't have the time, they don't take the time. So it needs to fit in their dailyconsumption of news and daily behavior. An other an other initiative we took is we have our use brand called "Haier" "Haier" is a brandknown for its sexy mobile telephones, Haier is known for the fact that it made SMS cheap in theNetherlands, Haier is known for the fact that it's advertising is much more daring than any otheradvertising for telecommunications in north west Europe and the this brand thrives to create acommunity and we have launched a multimedia concept this week which is called monkey murdermystery which is a real life game on the street, on the web and on your mobile and that way trying toget youngsters from their computer to their mobile, on their mobile to the to the outside world and theconcept is that they are looking to solve the mystery out there in the streets, get clues on the internet, get clues on their mobile and meanwhile also have to visit certain locations in the in the city, notalone will this will activate the brands and of course will be good for the high brands, good for KPNand it's innovative image but again it also stimulates again multimedia usageA third concept we have launched this KPN is what we call location based services. We are lookingquite a while at the possibility that through our mobile network we can locate where the mobile phoneis, so like a GPS we know where the mobile phone is and we see that in Asia a lot of services aredeveloped based on this concept where people either receive advertising on their mobile or they getservice offered based on the fact where the mobile isWe have this technology, we have this possibility but we don't see development of services in northWestern Europe. So we should - let's take the initiative as KPN and then we launched this week aservice called Ollo and the KPN stand that at this very moment there is a press conference explainingthe concepts. Basically what it is it's a flirting service, you sign up to the flirting service instead ofonline dating, you do the dating through your mobile. You put your profile in at the moment you say"yes I am I am connectable" then you are putting context with other mobile users in the same areaand you can either by SMS or by phone try to get in contact with that other person and this may lead to- to a date. We have more than 8000 subscribers in the first weeks where we have looks for testthe users and this will go alive next week. Then again do we as KPN wants to earn a lot of money in the dating service? No. Do we as KPN wantto establish ourselves form a connections business, a multi-access business to a services business in thislocation based services? No. What do we want to do we want to advertise this service, make it publicto do well and then we hope that all others create this like you, take this concept of location basedservices and start developing new services. This will put our products and service more at the heart ofthe consumer but more important it will stimulate the Dutch economy, it will stimulate the Europeaneconomy as this kind of growth Europe needs and in that sense I come back to my earlier statement, Iam proud to work in an industry which not only enables people but would also with the investmentstries to stimulate a local community, a national economy or a European economy and that's what we dowith our investments in mobile television, that's what we do with our investments in fiber, that's whatwe do with the investments in pilots like this. We do these pilots to get the services to the consumerand from there stimulate the creativity, here in this room to develop even more servicesOkay this brings me to to the end of my my presentation but I would like to say to you, we are inincumbents, we have the image of being a monopolist, being dominant in this new world we are not.Secondly, we do major investments in infrastructure in order to enable people to be connected to thisnew world, we pilot and test services in order to get concepts going and we hope that you as creativestake this. If you look at this World Wide Web, it is one big conversation, it is one big world ofcommunication and it's almost impossible to follow what happens there. The only thing is it givesconsumers the possibility to make their choices, it gives consumers the possibility to do what they wantto do in life and to get the best out of life and we as a incumbent telecompany company you seeourselves in connecting people to this world, helping them to get into this difficult phase and we wishyou guys all the best and success to develop even further services in the world and if you need partners,we are there. Thank you very much.
