Suzanne Carbonneau
A critic, essayist, and historian, Suzanne Carbonneau's writings have appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and other publications. She is Director of the NEA Arts Journalism Institute in Dance, and she is Critic-in-Residence at the American Dance Festival. Ms. Carbonneau is Scholar-in-Residence at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and the Bates Dance Festival and she lectures and writes for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Ms. Carbonneau holds a Ph.D. from New York University and is Professor of Performance at George Mason University. Her biography of choreographer Paul Taylor will be published by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. Carbonneau is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.
Bebe Miller
As choreographer and artistic director of Bebe Miller Company, Ms. Miller creates signature investigations of visual presentation, text and performance. Her work has been presented internationally in Europe, Asia and the African continent, and nationally in venues ranging from New York City's Brooklyn Academy of Music NEXT WAVE Festival to numerous colleges and universities around the country. She has been honored with four "Bessie" (New York Dance and Performance) Awards, a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, an American Choreographers Award and Artist's Fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council.
She currently serves on the boards of Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace Project and Bearnstow, a retreat center in Maine, and is a member of the International Artists Advisory Board of the Wexner Center for the Arts. She holds an MA in Dance from The Ohio State University.

Art of creating and arranging dances. The word is derived from the Greek for dance and write, reflecting its early meaning as a written record of dances. By the 19th century the term was used mainly for the creation of dances, and the written record became known as dance notation. In the 16th century dance masters at the French court arranged their social dances into specific patterns. In the 17th century such dances became more complex and were performed as theatrical ballets by trained professionals. In the late 18th century Jean-Georges Noverre and Gasparo Angiolini introduced choreography that combined expressive mime and dance steps to produce the dramatic ballet. This was further developed in 19th-century Romantic ballets by Marius Petipa, Jules Perrot, and August Bournonville. Radical change in the 20th century began with choreographers of the Ballets Russes, including Michel Fokine and Léonide Massine, and continued with George Balanchine, Martha Graham, Frederick Ashton, Jerome Robbins, Merce Cunningham, and Twyla Tharp. - motion picture
Series of still photographs on film, projected in rapid succession onto a screen. Motion pictures are filmed with a movie camera, which makes rapid exposures of people or objects in motion, and shown with a movie projector, which reproduces sound synchronized with the images. The principal inventors of motion-picture machines were Thomas Alva Edison in the U.S. and the Lumière brothers in France. Film production was centred in France in the early 20th century, but by 1920 the U.S. had become dominant. As directors and stars moved to Hollywood, movie studios expanded, reaching their zenith in the 1930s and '40s, when they also typically owned extensive theatre chains. Moviemaking was marked by a new internationalism in the 1950s and '60s, which also saw the rise of the independent filmmaker. The sophistication of special effects increased greatly from the 1970s. The U.S. film industry, with its immense technical resources, has continued to dominate the world market to the present day.
