The NetSquared 2007 Project Intro Presentations - Part 1.
In May 2007, 350 invited participants gathered in Silicon Valley to accelerate the 21 Projects that have been selected by the NetSquared community as having the greatest potential to leverage the social web to create social change.
Representatives from each N2Y2 Featured Project had 5 minutes to deliver their best elevator pitch during the Project Intro Presentations.

Bio
Daniel Ben-Horin
Daniel Ben-Horin, CompuMentor's President and Co-CEO, feels very fortunate that his job has evolved since 1987 to allow him to spend the bulk of his time thinking about social change this organization can work to enact.
The rest of Ben-Horin's time is spent trying to sell his ideas to the people at CompuMentor who have to implement them and the people outside who need to be convinced to be partners and/or funders of the projects.
After graduating from college in 1969, Daniel spent 7 years as a journalist (Arizona Republic, New York Times, New Times) in Arizona. During this time, he realized that as much as he liked to write and edit, he was more interested in how to use his skills for social change.
Gradually, his work moved in the direction of becoming an organizer, administrator, fundraiser, and what would today be called a social entrepreneur. He worked for Pacific News Service, directed Media Alliance in the early 80's, wrote fiction, took a couple of basic programming classes and, in 1987, founded CompuMentor with the notion that people who understood technology were an undervalued but potentially tremendous resource for social change organizations.
Ivan Boothe
Ivan Boothe is the director of communications for the Genocide Intervention Network, which empowers individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. He holds a degree in peace and conflict studies and authored a thesis on third-party nonviolent intervention.
His technical skills include more than a decade of web development, including semantic, standards-compliant XHTML and CSS, as well as extensive work with Drupal and WordPress content-management systems. Ivan was a co-founder of why-war.org, which launched a nationwide campaign of electronic civil disobedience against the voting machine manufacturer Diebold in 2003. Bradley Horowitz
Bradley Horowitz, Vice President of Product Strategy, is responsible for leading Yahoo!'s efforts in building innovative search technologies. Bradley's expertise helps drive initiatives that enable the company to provide comprehensive and compelling offerings to customers. Previously he managed a portfolio of products for Yahoo!, including media search, desktop search and the Yahoo! Toolbar.
Prior to joining Yahoo!, Bradley served as both the chief technical officer and the vice president of engineering for the Virage division of Autonomy, where he was responsible for the technical delivery of five major product lines. Prior to Autonomy, he founded Virage, the company widely recognized as the market creator and leader for advanced media indexing and analysis. He helped grow the company from "a garage startup" through its NASDAQ IPO.
Bradley was a PhD candidate at the MIT Media Lab. While at the Media Lab, he worked on a number of topics related to computer vision, graphics and image processing, which resulted in a patented new technique for the recovery of structure, motion and camera parameters from video sequences.
Bradley holds a MS in Media Science from MIT and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
Nicholas Reville

Jennifer Sly
Jennifer Sly, committed to assisting youth that she served while a Peace Corps Volunteer in Swaziland, the country with the world's highest HIV/AID rate in the world. She worked as a Research Scientist for the Research and Development Center at Honeywell, Inc., conceptualizing, proposing, and managing a proof of concept project in aviation safety for NASA.
For the past four years she has worked as a Director with a multi-service organization located in Queensbridge, the largest public housing development in the nation, focusing on technology and community development. She has also worked with the International Women's Tribune Centre, International Telecommunications Union, and the UN ICT Task Force.
Jen has an M.P.A. from the School of International Affairs at Columbia University and was selected by the MIT Media Lab as an IDEAS Fellow.
James L. Swanson
James L. Swanson is a former senior fellow in constitutional studies and former editor-in-chief of the Cato Supreme Court Review. A graduate of the University of Chicago and the UCLA School of Law, he was a member of the law review and recipient of a moot court distinguished advocate award.
He served as assistant to Chairman Susan Liebeler at the U.S. International Trade Commission, clerked for Douglas H. Ginsburg, chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and was a special assistant in the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice, where he worked on Supreme Court nominations.
He is the founding and current editor of the First Amendment Law Handbook (Westgroup), an annual volume on recent developments in constitutional law and freedom of speech. He has written articles on intellectual property, the First Amendment, and other topics, and his work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, American Heritage, and other newspapers and magazines.
A member of the National Book Critics Circle, his latest book Lincoln's Assassins: Their Trial and Execution was reviewed in the New York Times, the Sunday Times of London, the Chicago Tribune, and other publications. He serves on the Advisory Committee of the National Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
Irene Weiser

Siegfried Woldhek
Siegfried Woldhek is Founder and Director of Development at NABUUR.com.
Siegfried expresses his ideas in his drawings and through the organizations he helps shape. He started NABUUR.com at the end of 2001 after 20 years of conservation work. He studied theoretical ecology in Amsterdam and began to work for ICBP in 1978. Two years later he was employed by the Dutch Society for the Protection of Birds as biologist and later as CEO (1985-1990). From 1990-1998 Siegfried was CEO of World Wildlife Fund-Netherlands (700.000 members) and until 2002 he was in charge of the Action Network for WWF-International. In 2002 HRH Prince Bernhard awarded him the Order of the Golden Ark for his contribution to conservation.
As a separate career Siegfried has been making literary and political portraits for leading Dutch newspapers since 1976. His work is often exhibited and is published in several books. On www.woldhek.com more than 1000 of his portraits are shown, making it one of the largest collections of portraits of the entire Internet. For his contribution to Dutch literature he was awarded the GH's Gravesande prize.
