William Perry - William J. Perry was the nineteenth United States secretary of defense, serving from February 1994 to January 1997. His previous government experience was as deputy secretary of defense (1993-94) and undersecretary of defense for research and engineering (1977-81).
Perry, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, is the Michael and Barbara Berberian Professor at Stanford University, with a joint appointment in the School of Engineering and the Institute for International Studies, where he is codirector of the Preventive Defense Project, a research collaboration of Stanford and Harvard Universities. His previous academic experience includes professor (halftime) at Stanford from 1988 to 1993, when he was the codirector of the Center for International Security and Arms Control.
Louise Richardson - Executive dean Louise Richardson is the senior administrative officer of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and is responsible for the coordination of academic and administrative activities and the strategic management of administrative operations. Richardson is also a senior lecturer in government at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard and a lecturer on law at Harvard Law School.
Ian Shapiro - Ian Shapiro, Ph.D., Yale University, 1983, J.D., Yale Law School, 1987, is Sterling professor of political science and Henry R. Luce director of the Yale Center for International and Area Studies, now called the MacMillan Center. His research interests center on sociological aspects of economics and political theory. In particular, he has written extensively on theories of justice, democracy, and resource distribution, and the prospects for sustainable democracy in countries emerging from authoritarian political systems.
Shapiro has won several awards and fellowships, including election as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2000. He has also taught at Oxford and the University of Cape Town. Shapiro writes in an energetic style that has been criticized for "its confrontational tone."
