Joseph I. Bentley
Chair, J. Reuben Clark Law Society International
Joseph I. Bentley is an attorney, graduating from the University of Chicago Law School and is a retired partner in the law firm of Latham and Watkins. He has contributed to the Encyclopedia of Mormonism and co-authored, with Dallin Oaks, an article in BYU Studies entitled "Joseph Smith and Legal Process: In the Wake of the Steamboat Nauvoo."
For the past three years he is serving as a volume editor for the Joseph Smith Papers Project. Bentley is currently Chair of the Council for Mormon Studies at Claremont Graduate University and International Board Chair of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. In the Church he served a full-time mission in Argentina and has served as a high councilor, bishop, stake president, and regional representative. For the past decade he has served as Director of LDS Public Affairs for Orange County, California.
Chieko N. Okazaki
Chieko Okazaki served as the first counselor in the Relief Society general presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1990 to 1997. Prior to serving in the Relief Society general presidency, Sister Okazaki served on the Young Women and Primary general boards. Sister Okazaki has worked extensively in the field of education, having taught school in Hawaii, Utah, and Colorado before becoming an elementary school principal.
Sister Okazaki continues to address congregations and groups around the world. In addition, She has authored many books, including Lighten Up!, Cat's Cradle, Aloha!, Sanctuary, Disciples, and Being Enough.
Marilyn Simpson
Dr. Marilyn J. Simpson has been a faculty member at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology since 1998, teaching courses in psychological assessment, clinical practicum, professional practice and mental health systems, and marriage and family therapy. She has also served as a guest lecturer at Smith College, University of New Hampshire, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and the California School of Professional Psychology.
A licensed clinical psychologist, she has been in private practice in Pasadena since 1998 and concurrently serves on the affiliate staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital and the medical staff at Las Encinas Hospital. Several private schools and universities refer students to her to provide neurocognitive assessments. A widely-published scholar, Dr. Simpson was GSEP's Distinguished Alumna of the Year in 2005, and is a member of the GSEP Board of Visitors.
