Barry Lando talks about his book, Web of Deceit: The History of Western Complicity in Iraq, from Churchill to Kennedy to George W. Bush, published by Other Press.
He argues that the current situation in Iraq is a result of decades of duplicitous international entanglements in the region. Beginning with World War I and extending to the present, Mr. Lando cited actions that he says have caused massive death and long-term psychological trauma to the country's people, including the 1963 CIA-backed coup that brought the Baath Party to power; and America's role in the failed 1991 Iraqi revolt against Saddam Hussein. After his presentation the author responds to audience members' questions.
