Brookings launched a national initiative aimed at increasing the number of U.S. volunteers in international service as part of an International Volunteering Leadership Forum featuring government, corporate and civil society leaders. In conjunction with International Volunteer Day on December 5, sponsored by United Nations Volunteers, Brookings hosted an event with representatives from more than 100 organizations to discuss how to achieve the initiative's goal of doubling U.S. volunteers overseas, and enhancing multilateral capacity and impact over the next three years.

Mr. Blum is the founder and Chairman of the American Himalayan Foundation and is Honorary Consul to the Kingdom of Nepal. In addition, Mr. Blum serves on the Board of Regents of the University of California and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Business School at UC Berkeley. Mr. Blum has a B.A. and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Anne Hamilton

Anne Hamilton joined the Office of Merit Awards in July 2006. After completing her Peace Corps service in Thailand in January, she received admission to American University 's School of International Service where she will begin her Masters in Fall '06. As a community development worker in Thailand , Anne worked with organic farmers and women's groups and served as the Chairperson for the Gender and Development Global Initiative Group for which she organized the first USAID-sponsored conference for Peace Corps Thailand. Anne received her B.A. in English from the University of Iowa, where she studied at the Undergraduate Writers Workshop. She is fluent in Thai and is currently studying Arabic.

Ronald A. Tschetter
Ronald A. Tschetter is the 17th director of the Peace Corps. He was nominated by President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on September 13, 2006. Mr. Tschetter is the third director in the Peace Corps' history to have served as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Mr. Tschetter and his wife, Nancy, were Peace Corps Volunteers in India from 1966-1968, where they served as community health workers. Improving the lives of others has been a life-long passion of Mr. Tschetter.
After returning home from India, Mr. Tschetter worked in the financial securities industry for over 30 years, gaining strong management and leadership skills throughout his distinguished career.
Before becoming Peace Corps Director, Mr. Tschetter was the President of D.A. Davidson & Co., headquartered in Montana and the largest full-service investment firm in the Northwest, a position he held for two and a half years. Prior to D.A. Davidson & Co., he served as President of the Private Client Group for Dain Rauscher, a position he held for 10 years until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Tschetter began his career in 1970 with Blyth Eastman Dillon Union Securities and joined Dain Rauscher in 1973.
