I can't view this. Has it been removed or is it possibly a browser problem? I haven't had this problem before...

She is an inspiration, a secular saint, in the mold of history's various versions of Florence Nightengale and Jane Jacobs. I can't believe she will not be killed in such a ferocious place. I also wonder what she does for intimacy, a basic human need, even more intense in the female gender.

Chayes has such an interesting and unique perspective in her sort of non-partisan position in the Middle East. Also the fact that she's a woman willing to live in Afghanistan in order to help improve conditions and report back to the rest of the world on the situation there adds weight to her words. She wasn't in it for money or political reasons, but humanitarian ones.
