Simple math
I am always amazed at how people complain about "stagnant" pay. I would much rather live in a country where there is no pay increases but the cost of everything is dropping at least 20% a year (One trip to Walmart with its $900 flatscreen illistrates my point.) then in one with increased pay along with increased costs. This is a simplistic analogy but I'm sure everyone gets the point. =) The main problem has more to do with people spending EVERY penny + that goes into their pockets. There is not one country on this planet with a high growth economy this does not have citizens who save a great deal. China alone has a savings rate of, roughly, 50%! Sounds unrealistic but I want for nothing and save about that myself. Basicly if your willing to live like no one one else wants to for just a few years you can live like no one else can for the rest of your life.

Toffler's views on accelerated paced society, seems more apt today than ever. Technology is changing so rapidly, it is difficult for even the most techno-savvy people to keep up. His theory "obsolage" knowledge, meaning knowledge that was once believed to be fact and then becomes obsolete or untrue, is very interesting when put in those terms. His view on our greatest impoverished wealth, being cultural and educational wealth is enlightening. All of his theories seem to make sense, while never having thought of them in this context.

I remember Alvin predicting highly specialized channels in the pre-cable years including a beekeeper channel. Was absurd at the time and not to be realized but the new wave of broadband video makes that and more routine and doable. Just wait long enough....
