She's not only a lier but also unfortunately a very skilled manipulator. As a person, though, she's outright hideous...

I don't agree. I don't see anything moral about most of our religious leaders. They conduct themselves as those that are not religious leaders. If the past is an example of the kind of moral leadership they will provide, we are in deep, deep trouble. They have been responsible for more wars than those that make no claims on moral authority.

Madeline Albright’s argues that given the global climate of increased religious fervor, it would be reasonable to: (1) implement a moral--but not moralistic--foreign policy, (2) cooperate with the Republican party on humanitarian issues, (3) pay attention to Al Qaeda’s grievances despite their terrorist methods, and (4) realize that all religions hold respect for the individual as a common value. She also advocates providing the Secretary of State with religious advisors and involving religious leaders in diplomatic efforts in some way.

Her ideas reflect tremendous knowledge and pragmatism acquired over many decades in government. She comes across as both moderate and rational—a “realistic idealist” or “idealistic realist” as she calls herself. Nonetheless, I am slightly disturbed by her use of terms like “moral” and “evil” which have become trademarks of the Bush Administration. Is this her attempt to appeal to Republicans? Why aren’t more Democrats pushing to diminish the role of religion in government, rather than accommodating the U.S. rise in religiosity, much of it fueled by the Republican leadership?

I agree with bachmann. I now want a Democrat to step up and work with Madame Albright and Sen. Brownback (R-KS) to begin to bring to life her idea of a foreign policy that encompasses a moral compass.

Albright's analysis of religion's role in politics may at first seem perplexing, considering the democratic notion of a division of church and state, however after listening to her program her plan reveals itself to be completely democratic and practical.

Madeline gives a great talk that was a pleasure to see in person. She speaks of the "toxicity" in Washington and the need for a bipartison group effort. A free and open-minded idea exchange is another important factor to keep America itself united. To add, I think an important step towards this more united forward movement is accountability of Government.

Albright's vision for the U.S. to implement a moral foreign policy is something that needs to occur and her suggestion to include more religious advisors in our government would be a good starting point.
