Ted Turner - In 1980 Ted Turner inaugurated CNN, the world's first, live, round-the-clock news television network. Over the decades Mr. Turner and TBS acquisitions have been behind a number of services and networks, including Headline News, CNN International, CNNRadio, TNT, the Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, Ted Turner Pictures, and Ted Turner Documentaries.
Mr. Turner has made his mark as one of the most influential philanthropists in the US. In 1997 he announced a historic pledge of up to $1 billion to the United Nations Foundation. He currently serves as Chairman. He founded and Chairs the Turner Foundation, and Co-Chairs the Nuclear Threat Initiative with Senator Sam Nunn.
Mr. Turner directs the majority of his philanthropic activity through these three organizations, and has made grants to nearly every societal sector. He takes special care to develop and preserve the communities and environments around turner properties, conducting such work through the Turner Endangered Species Fund and the Turner Community Youth Development Initiative.
