Jon Soltz, Executive Director of IAVA PAC, speaks on progressive outreach to the military, part of the Truman National Security Project's Congressional Speaker Series. Soltz, an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran discussed strategies for bridging the divide between progressives and the military and for connecting with progressive service members.

Jon Soltz
Jon Soltz, Executive Director of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Political Action Committee (IAVA PAC), served as a Captain during Operation Iraqi Freedom deploying logistics convoys with the 1st Armored Division from May to September 2003. During 2005 Captain Soltz was mobilized for 365 days at Fort Dix New Jersey, training soldiers for combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served his country with distinction in the Kosovo Campaign as a Tank Platoon Leader between June and December 2000. Soltz is a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College with dual degree in Political Science and History. He has completed graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. He also served as the Veterans for John Kerry Pennsylvania State Coordinator.
Msr. Romano, I do agree with you about the ass-kicking. I'd like to extend this line of enquiry by asking whether Mrs. Clinton, as a woman, needs to be even tougher and more aggressive than a man, or is she just in the same position as a man who has never served in the armed forces?
I am fascinated by the truman project. Anyone know more about them? And does strong national defense mean a muscular aggressive defense by definition? I get the sense that to prove one's defense bona fides as a democrat, one has to be long on asskicking to avoid seeming like a weakling or communist/terrorist lover/America hater.
