"This president has done wrong". Come on, Russ. This president has done plenty that was ill-advised, even idiotic. But in this question, this president made a policy decision in the midst of an outcry over the poor quality of our intelligence pre-9/11. We've got a choice. We can either enable some trivial infringements on civil liberties, or we can live with knowing that we have no chance of pre-empting the next terrorist attack. There is no strategy for intelligent prevention that will not involve some eavesdropping. I can live with that if everyone else wants to. But let's understand what the choice is.

Is it possible that Feingold is, himself, acting in good faith? That he really feels this strongly about it? You might allow that it is.

I tend to agree. I don't love the NSA program, but Feingold is a bit of a blowhard. Can't the rhetoric be cooled just slightly? Alot of posturing going on here.

The thing I find most annoying in our current condition of political polarization is the constant tendency to question the good faith of actors in other parties. Why is it apparently impossible for Republicans and Democrats to disagree with policy choices of opposing leaders without demonizing them at every turn? I find it difficult to take leaders on either side--including Feingold here and Frist almost every time he opens his mouth--seriously.
