Using children as weapons of war is unconscionable and wholly indefensible. But though Dr. Singer states that child soldiers in the annals of history were just a footnote (i.e., little used), I wonder if the truth is that past generations did not see the practice as wrong, and so therefore did not bother to write about child soldiers? Do we see the same thing in child molestation, for example? What I mean is, is there really so much more of it, or is it that our consciousness has evolved to the point that we see child molestation, we acknowledge it as morally reprehensible, and so now we are having conversations about it (though in reality, still doing not enough to protect children from it)?
